Every mums wishes to have a special bond with each of her children, whether they are young or old. Therefore, to succeed in building and maintaining a close relationship, you need to spend some quality, one-on-one time with your child.

Research shows that children who have healthier relationships with their parents, grow up to have greater emotional stability compared to children with poor relationships with their parents. Some studies also indicate that having a quality relationship with your child also leads to decreased levels of everyday psychological distress when the child grows up.

The principle idea behind a date is to have a special bonding with your child. Here’s the best part, there’s only one rule to follow and that is to give them your complete attention. Avoid attending to phone calls or multitasking while spending quality time with your child.

To help make this special one-on-one time possible, here are 10 fun date ideas for moms and their kids:

  1. Get Messy with Arts and Crafts

There’s no better way to spark interest in your child than to introduce arts and crafts to your date plans. Spend a day making handmade artwork together. You or your children don’t have to be great artists for this. The goal is to have fun and allow your children to express their creativity freely. You can also take your child to a nearby craft store and choose your art supplies together.

  1. Enjoy a Spa Date

Every girl, despite her age, loves a little pampering.  If you have a daughter, take her to your salon and get your hair done or get a manicure or pedicure together.

However, you don’t have to leave your home to have a fun spa date. Try making DIY face masks and scrubs using simple ingredients from your pantry, such as fruits, olive oil, brown sugar and vanilla, or give each other a pedicure.

  1. Go Shopping

Make a shopping list together and include some of the things your child wants to get. Go to the grocery store and have a fun adventure, looking for things you both want to buy.

  1. Have a Picnic

Spend some time with your child deciding a place to have a nice picnic. This could be a beach, a park or even your back yard. Pick out some delicious snack ideas that you can make with your children, such as tiny sandwiches or cut fruit. This is a great way for you to bond with your little one as it gives you time to relax and chat.

  1. Build a Fort Together

Building forts has proven to bring immeasurable joy to children of all ages. Collect all the pillows and blankets around the house and help your child make it. Spend some time in your newly built fort, reading your children’s favorite story books or playing board games.

  1. After Dinner Dessert Date

Take your child out to his or her favorite dessert store. This way they get to satisfy their sweet tooth and you get to spend some quality time with them. We can guarantee that the kiddos will be quick to bring up this date idea again.

  1. Visit a Park

There are so many fun activities you can do with your young one at the park. From having scavenger hunts to playing basketball, the possibilities are endless. Encouraging your children to spend more time outdoors is an excellent way to enhance their physical, emotional and mental development.

  1. Plan a Trip to a Zoo or Farm

You can also plan a trip to a zoo or farm to help your children connect more with nature and learn about different animals and their behaviors.

  1. Go to The Library

You can plan an evening at the library where both of you can take turns to pick your favourite story book and read it to each other.

  1. Try a Cooking or Cake Decorating Class

You’ll be surprised how much fun you and your child have while cooking together. Both of you can even recreate the dishes you learn in your class at home for the rest of your family members to enjoy.
